2009 Year in Fic
Jan. 4th, 2010 04:19 pmIn January, I wrote nothing.
February: nothing.
March:The Undone Years, which was 3 months late for the Lostcityfound ficathon. This is why I don't enter those.
April: Men in Stiff Procession, a 21k sequel to a tiny flashfic.
May: Meed of Bane, flashfic.
July:
In the Nights When I am Lone, sequel to a different tiny flashfic.
To the Wide Outposts, the third story in the Where the Ways Divide verse.
August: The Known from the Unknown, fourth in Divide'verse.
September: nothing
November: Some DVD commentaries, which were fun/challenging but don't really count.
December: nothing.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Less. Way less. Though I started a lot, I posted very litte. Some stuff stalled out or is proving very challenging.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in 2008?
John/Teyla. Het. In the Undone Years, which was supposed to be John falls into a John/Teyla universe and has to deal.
What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Probably Men in Stiff Procession. I love writing Cameron Mitchell. But 95% of the feedback was from readers that liked the story despite him, not because of him. I loves him anyway.
Did you take any writing risks this year?
Het, John/Teyla, Cameron Mitchell in SGA, OC's in Divide'verse. I wasn't confident about any of those choices.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
I'd like to finish Divide'verse and the unposted Another Hero. I'd like to find something to do with my genficathon prompt that pooped out. It might be adaptable to a flashfic entry. I enjoy writing in SGA but the very same thing that make it fun
Story Most Underappreciated by the Universe
I don't think I wrote enough to have an underappreciated story. I'll just repeat my love of Cameron Mitchell.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story.
I got Sheppard drunk and stole his pants? Nah, nothing this year comes close to the character death, mpreggyness, and trauma I wrote last year. Another Hero may ultimately be sicker than The Light of Compassion, though.
Most fun
Men in Stiff Procession was pure joy to write. Cameron Mitchell is like a big fluffy puppy.
Most disappointing
Ugh. I try not to publish disappointing. The Genficathon prompt that pooped out is just awful in its current state. I'll either resuscitate it to a flashfic or post it as a terrible WIP to be permanently abandoned. I hate doing that, too.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters
The Undone Years made me realize John/Teyla could actually work.
Story with single sweetest moment
Hrm. I don't really write sweet. Probably something in the Divide'verse, maybe the part where amnesiac Sheppard doesn't know who he or Ronon is, and Ronon goes with "My friend/your friend" as a response? I don't know.
Hardest to Write
The Undone Years was really challenging when it turned into John/Teyla. Another Hero, which may be from McKay's perspective, is irrating the crap out of me. I almost want to wimp out and write from another perspective. The genficathon entry that crapped out might also work if I could just randomly eliminate Teyla. Which would be cheating and also probably suck.
Easiest story to write
Meed of Bane, definitely. Banged it out in like 45 minutes and spent longer than that pondering the title (which sucks, yes). And yet it's probably the most popular story of the year and even got illustrated in a comment! But I usually write long drama, not short light-hearted.
Happy New Year, all!
